History of Brentwood
For a long time, Brentwood remained a rural farming town. The invention of the car encouraged Nashville residents to move out to these suburban towns. People began buying old plantations and restoring them. The area became a popular spot for fox hunting and raising horses. By the 1960s, Interstate 65 brought even more people to the area, and in 1969 Brentwood was incorporated into a city with just 3,378 people. Today, it has over 11 times that, and it remains a popular destination for Nashville commuters.
Brentwood is just 10 miles from Nashville, which means days at the zoo, nights watching live music, and weekends watching professional sporting events or shopping, but you can stay close to home and have a good time, too. There are several award-winning restaurants in the area, ranging from casual to upscale. Brentwood is also known for its amazing parks and recreational facilities. There are also several golf and country clubs to choose from.
Brentwood is famous for its hundreds of acres of city parks. Some of the more popular ones are the 47-acre Tower Park, which has multi-purpose fields, trails, an indoor sports complex, a 50-meter indoor pool, tennis courts, and more. The 397-acre Marcella Vivrette Smith Park is one of Brentwood’s newest parks and is still under development. It is home to a mansion that dates back to 1825 and hiking trails. The 170-acre Crockett Park is home to 7 tennis courts, 8 ball fields, 11 multi-purpose fields, biking and jogging trails, a Frisbee golf course, a playground, picnic shelters, and an amphitheater. The amphitheater hosts a summer concert series, and the city’s annual fireworks display takes place at the park.
